I have been doing a lot of experimentation in the kitchen - especially with vegetables. Trying to find more (edible) ways to get them into my family's diet. Some things have turned out surprisingly well - like
baked cauliflower and
roasted vegetable pizza. So, when I saw
this about Kale Chips - I had to give it a try. I mean if a vegetable can be tasty like a chip...I'm on it! Because, you know, chips rock. Anyway...love chips, no love for the veggies. Decided to try this, in hopes of being pleasantly surprised. And......ewwww. They do get crispy, and they are
edible, but they are not something I will be making again. Unlike my
homemade yogurt - which I've just about finished my 2nd batch, and going to make more! The greek style is SO good - better than Chobani or the other brands I've tried, if I do say so myself. and I do.
Back to the Kale chips...if you already like kale, or you like the idea of a broccoli flavored potato chip, then by all means, give these a try - you'll probably love them! They, however, were not for the Mo' Betta household...
Kale - torn away from "stalk"
tossed with a couple of teaspoons olive oil and salt (to taste)
baked until crispy
broccoli flavored chips

Like I said, they were edible, just not good. But we don't like broccoli. or kale. or too many things that are leafy and green. I'm trying to fix that, but this was not happening for us. However, you don't know if you don't try!
Mmm! I know you're giving 'em a thumbs-down, but I actually do like kale (so do my kiddos), and I agree: anything that has "chip" in the title is A-OK with me. :) I think I'll be trying these! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI just had my first experience with making kale chips too! I actually did like them though and will be making them again :-). At least you tried them though! I also recently tried a new food that didn't taste so great too - and will be posting about it later this week.
ReplyDeleteI would never ever have thought to make kale or broccoli into a crisp chip. I just might try this....or not. *giggle* I may just have to take your word...or thumbs...for it!
