Cinnamon Spice Applesauce {crockpot} and Oatmeal recipes

I had a bunch of apples (actually, it was more like a bushel), so I made

Which led to
apple bread

I also made these.  For the kids, of course ;)
Apple "Nachos".  Never even blogged about them.  They are apple slices, caramel drizzled over the top, and then chocolate chips, marshmallows, and white chocolate M&M's.  My kids thought I was the best.  (got the idea from Pinterest!)

And then I made cinnamon spice applesauce in the crockpot.  And didn't take a single picture!  That's very unusual around here.  I think I have some left in the freezer, but who wants to see frozen applesauce?  So anyways, I made it, it was easy and it was delicious.  (and I should mention I don't even LIKE applesauce!)

Crockpot Cinnamon Spice Applesauce
  • 12-18 peeled and sliced apples (enough to fill your crockpot)
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar *may want a little more or less depending on the sweetness of your apples
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1 T. cinnamon
  • 1/2 T. pumpkin pie spice

Put your apples in the crockpot (I sprayed mine with Pam just to be on the safe side...I don't think it was necessary).  Add all the other ingredients and carefully mix.  Let cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for about 4.  Just check after a few hours, give them a good stir, and they should break up pretty easily.  Your house will smell heavenly and you can either blend the applesauce for a super smooth consistency, or leave as is for a few lumps.  Which is what I did.

Then I proceeded to put it in my morning oatmeal - which was supposed to be the point of this entire post anyways! oops.
homemade applesauce, old fashioned oats (cooked in the microwave for 3 mins!) and some walnuts - now that's a big bowl of comfort to start your mornings out right!

  1. I think I'm going to make a vat of that oatmeal, but I have to try the applesauce first. My last crockpot applesauce didn't turn out very good.

  2. Sounds yummy - we love to put vanilla in our applesauce instead of cinnamon. Plus applesauce and oatmeal is one of my favorite combinations!
