misc Monday

At the end of yesterday's post, I mentioned getting the kids outside to walk or ride bikes.  We got everyone dressed, shoes on and ready to go.  My little Terrible Two was all excited.  We ran through the garage, squealed and ran down the driveway, and then suddenly....he stopped.  He didn't want to run anymore.  He didn't want to walk anymore.  He wanted me to hold him.  What?  Why?!  I'm thinkin' "you're a little boy, you want to run and play and get dirty!!"  uh uh.  He wanted me to CARRY him.  So, I carried his little lazy ass self down the road (it's a short street that ends in a cul-de-sac).  I made him walk some on the way back.  Even though he didn't like it.  **you can't see me, but I am shaking my head in exasperation**  So, this is how he spent his time....

Yeah, that's how I like to roll too -

The girls, however, found a large nasty ass puddle of water full of tadpoles.
Of course, they had to collect some of the stagnant, bacteria infested water and bring it back to the house.
Yay.  Now we have tadpoles living in a fish tank in their rooms.  I can only imagine how well that is going to smell in a few days.  I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.

Anyway....on to more pleasant topics....FOOD!  A couple of weeks ago I made pickled peppers.  It was my first attempt, and today I got to try them! (you were supposed to wait 2 weeks before opening them).  If you have an abundance I banana peppers, I highly recommend you make these.  It is simple and they are so GOOD.  My only complaint is that they are very salty.  I'm not sure if that will get better or worse as they "age".  But let me tell you - on a sandwich, they are THE BOMB!  I fixed a BLT, with Roasted Red Pepper Hummus and my pickled peppers...Best. Sandwich. Ever.  I should open a deli.  Not really, but it was that good.  I think I'll have another one today.  Mo'bacon.....

I also have a few garden pics...I haven't posted any in a while.  My garden is actually one of the reasons I started a blog.  I was so excited watching it grow, and all my Facebook friends were ready to "de-friend" me.  They just didn't understand my fascination with documenting the daily advances in my first garden!  How can you not enjoy watching grass grow?!  I've got more grass (not, like, grass as in  grass, but just plain ol' aggravating don't-want-in-my-garden grass) than I know how to deal with.  It is out of control.  I finally got the weed eater and went nuts ..... well, the truth is, I got my husband to show me how to use the weed eater, and apparently was doing such a piss poor job of it, that he took over and plowed through some of the steroid induced grass we have.  Works for me.  Anyway, we are getting lots of peppers still - green bell peppers, banana peppers, and jalapenos.  Grape tomatoes, which are so cute, but I'm not sure what to do with them all...roast them maybe?  And watermelons!!
Cute harvest basket, b-day gift from my lil sis

some of my "harvest"!

2nd watermelon, and we have more growing!

Kids still get excited over picking stuff!  Especially watermelon - they will demolish an entire watermelon in one sitting if I let them!  My sister also gave me some cool things to plant for fall - pumpkins, gourds....the kids will LOVE that!  I can't believe it's already time to think about Fall, Back-to-School, and before you know it HOLIDAYS!!  Time goes by entirely too fast.  I can't keep up.

  1. I was obsessed with tadpoles as a kid too, so I can totally understand the girls' fasination!

  2. Holy crap you have a lot of grape tomatoes. I keep getting like 2 or 3 at a time and end up just eating them on their own.

I have a good pasta recipe that uses grape/cherry tomatoes. I'll email it to you
