Mo'Betta gets crafty {Cancer Awareness Bracelet}

Every once in a while, I get into the notion to make something.  Not bake something, b/c I love to eat and the notion to do that comes often.  But I mean to actually create and make something.  I love crafts, but I seldom have the time or the attention span (or the financial freedom) to do them.  Over the years, I've started many different little "projects", just to have them abandoned soon after...like crochet, scrapbooking, sewing, etc.

Anyway, since my dad has been battling the "C" word, I've been interested in increasing awareness.  Leukemia awareness, bone marrow transplant awareness, and so on.  I decided one way to do that would be to get a tattoo.  I wanted a ribbon or something in a visible location...well, the hubs was just NOT down for that.  In fact, he said he would divorce me.  Okay then.  Plan B.

I made this bracelet, that I could wear everyday!  Orange is the color used for Leukemia and Green is used for transplants.  I also found the little ribbon and Believe charms at Michaels craft store.  'Believe' became our new family motto around Christmas time.
I made a couple of others, one for my mom and one for my sister as well.  Theirs were a little different, but I do not have good photos of them.  So, even though people may not know what the colors represent, when I catch them checking it out, or they ask about it, it gives me the opportunity to make them AWARE.  It's not as cool as a tattoo, but it will have to do for now!

  5. The bracelet is a great idea. Not only is it a reminder to you, you may get people inquiring about it and you'll have the opportunity to possibly educate them.

    Best of luck to your father.
