Say what? Yes, you read that right...homemade dishwasher detergent. Compliments of Pinterest. It inspires all kinds of DIY activities. So, when I saw this one for detergent, I wanted to give it a try, b/c I hate spending a lot of money on cleaning stuff. That money could be used on something important. Like shoes. (A girl has to have her priorities in order.)
The "recipe" comes from Young House Love and is super simple. It is also made from ingredients that are healthier for you and the environment.
2 cups Borax
2 cups Baking Soda
4 small packs of lemonade (the ones without sweetener)
I have used this a few times now, and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. It works great! Better than the name brands I have been using. There has been no yucky residue, no spots, everything comes out super clean. I'll definitely keep using this, and all the ingredients pictured were about 5 bucks. It only takes a small amount, so it will last a long time (and I use my dishwasher everyday). Bottom line? This homemade, natural cleaning product is a keepaaah.
Happy Friday y'all!
what a great idea, i am definitely going to try this.
ReplyDeleteI've done this before too! There is also a version that makes a liquid gel type stuff.
ReplyDeletewow! this is great to know!
ReplyDeleteI know it sounds crazy but it stresses me out to buy detergent. This looks like a great idea and I'm going to give it a try. Thanks!

ReplyDeleteNice! I've never made this before, but would like to try it out.
ReplyDeleteHow much do u use per load?
ReplyDeleteI used the recommended amount of powder detergent for my dishwasher. I need to do an update to this post, b/c after about a month or so, I noticed that it did start to yellow the inside of my dishwasher a little (I read somewhere that this happens). So I quit using it for every wash, and switched it up with a store bought one. I need to do some more experimenting, but this one is so easy.
